Updates on Deep Freeze street closures
Details to remember for 118 Avenue’s premier winter festival
With Deep Freeze: A Byzantine Winter Festival 2025 just days away, residents will soon see temporary changes to their parking and commute habits.
During the festival weekend, 118 Avenue from 90 to 95 Streets will be temporarily closed. The closures will commence on Friday, January 17, at 9 a.m. and conclude on Monday, January 20, at 4 a.m.
The festival relies on community support in all shapes and is made possible by volunteers and local helpers alike. With that, residents of green areas will require off-street parking arrangements. No-parking signs will be posted during the affected dates, and compliance will allow for ETS bus detours on 117 Avenue and horse wagon rides along 119 Avenue.

Another consideration for residents is the annual fireworks display on Saturday evening. The fireworks will launch from behind the Alberta Avenue Community League on 93 Street at 9 p.m.
With two days of workshops, music, public art, and warm drinks, Deep Freeze truly offers something for everyone. Whether supporting the festival through 50/50 raffle purchases, volunteering, or exploring local cafes and art centres for one-of-a-kind performances, your involvement makes incredible undertakings like this festival a reality for our community. Bring friends, family, and neighbours—the more the merrier!
As Executive Director at Arts on the Ave and Deep Freeze founder Christy Morin says, “Your support makes this magic possible… Let’s celebrate together, sharing in the stories of connection, community, and the beauty of winter.”
