Edmonton’s Norwood Dental Centre has launched a Dental Resources guide. The free guide offers details like specific codes for different aspects of dental plans to help people easily navigate what the plans actually offer, and answers any questions you may have about your dental plan. Norwood also encourages people to reach out to their medical office with any questions they may have, even if they aren’t ready to book an appointment.
Dr. William and Amanda Chin (Nielsen) open the guide: “We are committed to doing dentistry, differently, and to offering exceptional care with kindness and comfort. Your oral health matters. Our dream in starting Norwood Dental Centre was to create a space of community, connection, and a place where folks can feel relaxed and at-ease.”
The guide is a “Coles Notes” version of understanding your dental coverage. Norwood Dental Centre provides suggested questions to ask your insurance company and brief definitions of what you’re asking.
The guide also offers a list of publicly funded insurance options, like the Alberta Dental Service Corporation (ADSC) or the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP). It lists affordable dental care options outside of a dental office as well, like NAIT’s Dental Assisting Program or Radius Community Health and Healing. The guide is a complete resource to know what to expect with every option — for example, the University of Alberta School of Dentistry offers a range of different dental services to the public at affordable prices, but the guide warns that appointments are typically up to three hours long and may take multiple visits to complete the hygiene care.
Norwood also offers some quick tips at the end of the guide, like saving your medical receipts: “It doesn’t help with upfront costs but we’ve heard of many folks successfully claiming dental and medical bills on their taxes. Not a perfect solution, but we’re all for helping folks save money where they can.”
