MESSAGE FROM YOUR MLA
Janis Irwin, Edmonton Highlands-Norwood
Friends,
I write to you today from the legislature, where the first legislative session of 2026 has kicked off.
As always, I continue to be so proud to represent you as your MLA, and be part of an Alberta NDP team that puts forward tangible solutions to address the issues that you’ve told me are important, including access to healthcare, affordability, education, and housing.
Serving as the MLA for Edmonton-Highlands-Norwood has been the honour of my lifetime, and I want you to know that my team and I are always here and ready to help however we can. I know that so many of you have experienced challenges with health care and social supports, and while my office can’t always fix the structural problems plaguing these systems, we will do everything in our power to try to get you the support you need.
So please know that my constituency team can help advocate for you if you’re struggling with a provincial government program. Provincial programs include our health and education systems, most social services (like AISH, Income Support, seniors’ benefits), registries, and many other programs that are a part of our daily lives.
If you have a concern and you’re not sure if it’s provincial, please reach out and we’ll help determine if we can help and if we can’t, we’ll connect you with the elected official that can.
My constituents are, and have always been, my first priority.
I also want you to know that if you have a special event or occasion coming up, please reach out to my office, as I’d love to try to attend, and I’m always so happy to provide a commemorative scroll from the Legislative Assembly.
And in the legislature, please remember that I’m here to fight for you, and to advocate for the changes that are necessary to make your life better. As we’ve recently heard some harmful and divisive rhetoric relating to immigration and separation, I hope you remember that when things seem dark and hopeless, there is power in community, in solidarity, and in showing up for each other. I promise to keep fighting because I know more than ever, that better is possible in this province and community I love.
I hope to see you out and about, especially as we get closer to spring. Please continue to share your priorities and concerns with me and my team – we are just an email or phone call away.
Take care of yourselves, and each other,
Janis
