It's a Polygonatum which goes by the common name Knotweed or Common Knotgrass. It loves salty soil and may be telling you that you've applied too much ice melt product to your sidewalk last winter. It's pulling excess salts from the soil so they don't harm the trees. Your lawn will recover once these helpful plants have repaired the soil. Edmonton Urban Farm

Join us for Saturdays at the farm! Drop-in hours are from 10:00am-4:00pm from June 1 to September 28, 2024. Explore the Urban Farm, and participate in free, fun, family activities. You can also visit the farm for special activities during Open Farm Day on August 17, 2024. Website

Edmonton Urban Farmers started the season with a Jane's Walk through Kinnaird Ravine with members of Freearts and Parkdale Cromdale. The opening day at the Urban Farm drew 100 farmers to the site. The farm will be moved after this growing season. | Patty Milligan

Alberta Avenue Community Garden

The garden improvements and expansion started two years ago continue behind the Alberta Avenue Community Centre. New ground has been tilled and will soon be planted with potatoes. Last summer, 125 pounds of seed potatoes turned into an 800 pound harvest.
