Whether it’s been cold or mild outside, you’ll have noticed your neighbourhood walks have been dotted with new local art installations throughout December and January. What you may not know is that these projects are part of a social media passport project called Art is Everywhere.
Organizers invite residents and visitors to search the Alberta Avenue, Eastwood, Spruce Ave, Westwood, Delton, Elmwood Park, Parkdale/Cromdale, and Cromdale community league parks and neighbourhoods and post selfies with the limited-time exhibits from local creators.
Art seekers who post selfies with all nine art installations can tag @artsontheave with the hashtag #artiseverywhere and enjoy a complimentary hot chocolate from The Carrot Community Arts Coffeehouse. This contest runs until January 28th, 2025, so gear up today to start your journey!
Funding and support for Art is Everywhere is provided by the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, Edmonton Arts Council, The City of Edmonton, Canada Council for the Arts, and the volunteers at Arts on the Ave. By approaching the project through a grassroots lens, emerging artists like Alexandra Denvir (pictured above) are shown alongside long-standing Edmonton artists like Amanda Schutz of Curio Studio—a Fellow (the highest honour) of the Design Professionals of Canada.
With warm temperatures forecasted through the week, there is no better time than now to explore your backyard and discover the art that exists all around us. Free hot chocolate is just a bonus!
Searching for art will get us out on these wintry days. With a hot chocolate to warm us up! Thanks for letting us know about this.
