Back in June, we reported on a new Mexican restaurant replacing the Ming Kee Bar on the corner of 85 St. and 118 Ave. Well after a successful soft launch opening to the community on June 21, La Morenita is ready to celebrate with a grand opening event and ribbon cutting on Thursday, July 25 at 6 pm.
In what sounds like it will be a colourful and lively affair, restaurant owner Angelica Cruz plans on drawing a crowd of eager food enthusiasts and curious locals. She wants everyone to experience the rich flavours and warm hospitality that Mexican cuisine is renowned for.
The restaurant’s interior is a feast for the eyes, with lively, vibrant murals and paintings which set the tone for this inviting new space. Angelica said in our initial story, “That’s what’s important to me as a business owner and as a family. That communities have a place to actually gather.” She has created an environment where people will want to linger and savour not just the food, but the entire experience.
The grand opening event is a sign of the restaurant’s commitment to community and celebration. Guests will be able to enjoy live music, dance performances, and a tantalizing array of dishes from the menu. Chef Cruz and her team will be there to mingle with the crowd and share insights into the inspiration behind this project.
Here's what people can can look forward to, according to Cruz:
Sample their most popular dishes: Experience the flavours that define La Morenita like the famous Churro Cheesecake and mouth watering tacos.
Enjoy live music by Gaby Valdez Show and Las Estrellas De Jalisco: Immerse yourself in the festive atmosphere with live entertainment including traditional folk and Aztec Dances.
Take advantage of exclusive grand opening day promotions: Have a complimentary appetizer with your meal!
A warm and welcoming environment: Perfect for gathering with friends and family.
Don't forget to save room for fresh-baked pastries after you indulge in the savoury dishes!
“Culturally we say the procession is where we come in with live music and the idea is to liven up or wake up the space. We’ll do a few speeches to say thank you to all of our friends that painted the murals & helped decorate, paint, build the bar and everyone else who poured a lot of love into this building” - Angelica Cruz
La Morenita on 118 Avenue is more than just a restaurant — it’s a community experience that invites diners to explore the rich and diverse flavours of Mexico. Its strong and well considered menu features plenty of options for meat eaters, vegetarians, and vegans alike.
Whether you’re a longtime lover of Mexican food or a newcomer eager to discover something new, La Morenita promises a dining experience that is both memorable and delicious. With its warm ambiance, friendly service, and exceptional cuisine, this new addition to the neighbourhood is set to become a favourite spot for locals and visitors alike.
